RAF Northolt Nightshoot XXV held on the 18th October 2018
This Nightshoot, once again organised by Phil Dawe, was number 25 in the long running series.
RAF Northolt Nightshoot XXV, attracted its usual large number of photographers, with security very much in evidence,
RAF Northolt Nightshoot XXV unfortunately, suffered from some late cancellations, but there
was certainly enough variety to make the event worthwhile. The main cancellations being the civil aircraft invitees.
Aircraft that were able to attend came from the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Belgian Air Force & German Navy (Marineflieger).
The good weather also played its part in a really enjoyable evening.
The highlights of the event had to be the German Navy Westland Sea Lynx Mk88A, 83+12 from Marinefliegergeschwader 5 (MFG5), based at Nordholz AB.
2 Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet 1B+'s of the Belgian Air Force from 8 Wing, Advanced Jet Training School (AJeTS) & based at Cazaux in France. AT33 & AT01.
One of these two jets, AT33, carries special markings celebrating the 100th Anniversary of French Air Force Squadron Escadrille SPA 73.
The RAF were represented by one of their brand new Embraer EMB-500 Phenom T.1's, this one being ZM333 from 45(R) Squadron which is based at RAF Cranwell.
From the Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury an Airbus Helicopters H135 Juno HT1, ZM532/32 & from the home team
at RAF Northolt, a 32 Squadron BAE 146 CC2, ZE701.
Another real highlight of the evening was the 7PM arrival of a Royal Navy Agusta/Westland EH-101 Merlin HM2, ZH843/88. Since Nightshoot XXIV
static engine runs have not been allowed so the Merlin's arrival was a rare chance for photographers to photograph an
aircraft with its rotors turning. This aircraft coming from 824 Naval Air Squadron based at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall.
The only remaining civilian owned aircraft on the provisional list of attendees that was able to make the
event was the De Havilland DH.89a Dragon Rapide, G-AGJG, which is owned by David and Mark Miller.
The aircraft looked superb under the floodlights in its Scottish Airways Limited colour scheme.
